Ifremer encourages active mobility with 2 shelters for bicycles and VAE in Nantes (44)

The Institut Français de Recherche pour l’Exploitation de la Mer (French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea), located on the Université de Nantes campus, wanted to install high-quality bicycle facilities to encourage active mobility and facilitate employee parking.

Ifremer Centre Atlantique called on Abri Plus to build 2 Beaulieu model open bike shelters.

The 2 bicycle shelters have been positioned opposite each other on the outskirts of the building to provide ample capacity: 20 spaces for bicycles and 4 additional spaces for electrically-assisted bicycles.

With their flat roofs and discreet, contemporary design, the bicycle parking facilities blend in perfectly with the public body’s buildings.

The 2 Beaulieu shelters are 5 metres long and 2.50 metres deep.

A 1.50-meter gap has been left between the 2 shelters to facilitate bicycle circulation and safety.

The 10 upside-down U-shaped bollards allow bikes to be attached and secured at three points (2 bikes per bollard).

In addition, 4 parking arms on the Institute site are equipped with VAE sockets for easy recharging of electrically-assisted bicycles.

Optional neon LED lighting and coat hooks (on the front posts) have also been installed for cyclists’ convenience.

To contrast with the white color of the shelters, blue (RAL5003) adhesives were applied to the outer glass panels (securit glass).

These specific logos , requested by the customer, help to identify the bike shelter, increase its visibility in the parking lot and provide a 100% customized product.

To make it easier for cyclists to maintain their bikes, it is also possible to install additional services close to the bike shelters: inflation pump (manual or electric), repair station, washing station…
