While the Centre Hospitalier de Valenciennes has already equipped itself with two secure bicycle shelters with 150 spaces, the latter is already planning a target of 300 spaces by 2026.

Mobility plan

At the beginning of 2025, the Centre Hospitalier de Valenciennes (CHV) welcomed 2 Abriplus bike shelters to begin drawing up its mobility plan. Following a diagnostic phase, it was found that 25% of professionals use bicycles to get around the hospital.

“Being located in the city, the CHV benefits from easy access to public transport, but the latter’s timetables are not very compatible with those of the caregivers”. Julie Champion, Head of CSR and Sustainable Development at CHV.

In addition, recurrent thefts from the site were reported, leading to the decision to significantly reinforce the infrastructure.

The aim is to meet the efficiency needs of professionals. As part of its environmental policy, the CHV is planning to install 300 bicycle parking spaces.

The installation of over 150 seats

The project began in early January with the installation of two secure bicycle shelters at the hospital. The CHV opted for two Modul’Ere shelters, with a modern, elegant design that blends harmoniously into their surroundings. Manufactured from galvanized steel, the shelters are extremely robust and long-lasting in all weathers.

Bicycle shelters are designed to accommodate as many people as possible, so they have large dimensions:

  • The first, located in the Therapeutic Garden, measures 6.5M X 20M.
  • The second, located at the Monaco maternity hospital, measures 6.5M by 2.2M.

To optimize parking, various bike racks have been added inside the shelters. A wide choice of solutions was offered to accommodate all types of bicycles.

In the largest shelter, Park Up racks, Cargo Park bollards and Cargo Park rings have been added. Over 100 secure parking spaces are now available for staff.

The second shelter features A terminals, Cargo Park terminals and Cargo Park rings, providing 26 additional bicycle parking spaces.

The installation of cargo bike docking stations is a response to strong demand in recent years. Between 2021 and 2022, 33,000 cargo bikes were sold in France, a rising trend that continues.

In this way, the CHV has effectively initiated its environmental policy by responding to the strong demand for soft mobility, by offering all its staff a reliable and safe solution for cycling to work. This initiative fully supports the promotion of sustainable modes of transport.

Abriplus is looking forward to renewing its collaboration with the Valenciennes hospital in the near future.
