Vel’boxes, yes, but this time double-decker!

Our installation teams recently set off for Tarare station, near Lyon, to install a new feature for 2024: Vel’box double-deckers.

Vel’boxes are secure, multi-storey bicycle lockers. Each Vel’box can accommodate 4 individual bikes. Once inside the box, users secure their bikes and the locker themselves with an anti-theft device and a padlock. Vel’boxes are particularly well-suited to small spaces, thanks to their compact footprint. The single-storey installation maximizes space optimization.

To simplify bike storage in the boxes on the upper floor, 2 Park Up rails have been integrated. Simply pull the handle to lower the rail and store your bike. The 2 Park Up double bike rack, equipped with a retaining mechanism, makes this operation simple and doesn’t require much force to raise the bike.

Strategically positioned at the foot of the station, these double-decker Vel’box bike lockers are a highly effective way of promoting intermodality in the city. Passengers can now cycle to the station and secure their means of transport while they’re away.

The bike racks were personalized with a custom-made adhesive. This not only highlights the bike storage facilities’ managers, but also indicates to users their functions and uses. The Vel’boxes’ large adhesive surface makes them an excellent means of communication for cyclists.

This latest installation ofsecure bicycle shelters in a station brings us a step closer to the final goal of the LOM objective: to equip a third of the country’s stations with secure bicycle parking facilities.
