ITM LEMI, a non-food logistics company serving the Bricomarché, Brico Cash, and Bricorama retail chains as well as the Groupement Mousquetaires, recently enlisted Abri Plus to design and build its facility in Albon, in the Drôme department (26).

Managing break areas and ensuring harmony between smokers and nonsmokers are essential in today’s workplace. ITM LEMI therefore wanted to create a dedicated smoking area that was clearly marked and comfortable, in order to ensure a pleasant environment for everyone. The Abri Plus teams proposed installing a smoking shelter that is functional and easily integrated into the existing environment, thereby creating a suitable break area.

A functional smoking shelter that blends into the site

The Beaulieu model was chosen – a smoking shelter with a simple design, intended to fit into all types of professional environments, particularly logistics sites. The shelter features a curved front panel, which helps to better isolate smokers and prevent smoke from drifting toward non-smokers.

To enhance user comfort, the facility was equipped with built-in benches, providing employees with a pleasant, sheltered place to take a break. An ashtray was also added to ensure the designated area is used in a clean and orderly manner. Equipping the space makes it more comfortable, thereby encouraging employees to use the shelter and comply with smoking regulations.

This new layout now provides a designated, comfortable, and well-organized smoking area, which helps improve the flow of people on the site and ensures respect for shared spaces.

Why Set Up a Smoking Area at Work?

With the tightening of regulations on smoking in public and communal spaces, companies must now balance several priorities: complying with current legislation, ensuring the comfort of nonsmokers, and providing employees with spaces suited to their needs.

Setting up a smoking shelter provides a practical solution to these issues. Located outside buildings, it allows smokers to gather in a clearly designated area, while limiting the spread of smoke near entrances, walkways, or shared break areas.

Beyond the regulatory aspect, the smoking shelter also helps improve the work environment. By providing a covered and comfortable space, it protects users from inclement weather and helps improve the flow of people on the premises. Smoking areas thus become cleaner, more pleasant, and better integrated into the company’s environment.

For employers, this is also a way to enhance their outdoor spaces while ensuring the well-being of all employees. With customizable and aesthetically pleasing designs, smoking shelters blend seamlessly with buildings and other facilities on the premises, while meeting safety and compliance requirements.
