Connected bicycle parking in Marseille (13)

A few weeks ago, a connected bike park was opened in Marseille! A total of 178 spaces have been created to meet the growing demand from cyclists for safe bike parking.

To optimize the use of space, 2 Park-Up double-deck racks were chosen. The bike locks into the rail and is protected by an anti-tilt system. Installed by Abriplus, these double-deck bike racks are compatible with most bicycles and are easy for the user to use, thanks to an ergonomic handle and ball bearings. Security rings have been fitted to enable users to easily secure their bicycles with their personal anti-theft devices.

The parking lot’s 2-storey racks are also equipped withan autonomous bicycle counting system, which provides live information on the occupancy rate. Cyclists can find out how many spaces are left on a screen located at the entrance. The manager also has real-time access to the parking lot’s occupancy levels. This enables them to better understand user behavior, carry out statistical analyses and identify any “sucker” bicycles that may have remained parked for too long.

This type of high-capacity urban facility significantly encourages active mobility and intermodality in the Bouches-du-Rhône (13) region. The bike-counting system provides added convenience for users of the service, who can find out in advance how many spaces are available.

Fifty storage lockers for users’ helmets and clothing were also installed.
