57 secure bicycle shelters to encourage soft mobility in the Pays de l’Or (34)

Yet another secure bicycle locker deployed by the Agglomération du Pays d’Or! In October 2025, one of the region’s new Vel’Box bicycle shelters was inaugurated on the forecourt of its headquarters in Mauguio.

They chose the Vel’Box Angers model, an individual bike locker. Customizable, it can be clad in wood or perforated sheet metal in a wide choice of colors, and offers a large communication surface on the walls and doors. The locker is secured by padlock, code or electronic lock.

The 57 Vel’Boxes, deployed at 18 strategic sites across the region, provide a total of 114 parking spaces close to bus stops, business parks, intermodal hubs and major cycle routes. Use of these bike lockers is free of charge. Access is via the Diwio app, with a Bluetooth connection for those on the coast, and a personal padlock for those inland.

The inauguration of the Mauguio locker is part of an ambitious project undertaken by the agglomeration since 2012, then reinforced by the Global Mobility Plan adopted in 2019. The aim of these initiatives is to facilitate bicycle travel, reduce the use of individual cars and promote shared active mobility.

The deployment of this infrastructure is part of a growing cycling network in the Pays de l’Or, connected to a number of cycle routes and cycle paths in the region. The project was partly funded by the Alvéole+ program of the Bicycle Users Federation.

Abri Plus supported the conurbation in the supply and installation of secure bicycle shelters, providing reliable, attractive parking solutions tailored to the needs of cyclists throughout the conurbation.
