Bike parking
FAQ All our advice on creating a secure and efficient cycle park
Choosing a location for your bike shelter is one of the first questions to ask at the start of your project. We recommend that you consider three major factors before making your final decision:
- The proximity to the entrance of your building. Your bike parking should be located as close as possible to the served locations. Whether it’s a workplace, a train station, a tourist spot… Users should be able to easily reach the served location on foot. This will encourage more users to choose active mobility!
- The correspondence between the available space and the number of bikes you wish to park. Although bikes take up less space than cars, you will still need a sufficiently large area to accommodate all the cyclists. Solutions exist to optimize the available space, such as the 2 Park-Up double deck support.
- The visibility of your bike shelter. Your bike parking should not be hidden at the back of the parking lot! Make it visible and communicate about the presence of a secure and dedicated bike area with signage.
The creation of a dedicated Bike parking area must take several factors into account: the frequency of cyclists, their needs, nearby bike lanes, etc. The choice of location is, of course, crucial: the site must be easily accessible and visible. If possible, the bike shelter should be placed in close proximity to the building or location it serves. While each project requires a unique study, a complete and practical space to park a bike can be easily created by combining suitable equipment:
- A secure bike shelter that protects both from the weather and theft. Access to this bike shelter should be managed depending on the cyclists’ usage: occasional, regular, daily… Abri Plus offers various access control solutions that meet all these situations.
- Sufficient bike racks to accommodate all current cyclists, as well as future bike users: you must anticipate an increase in traffic!
- equipment for repairing or maintaining your bike. Cyclists will appreciate having tools available to inflate tires or make small repairs on their bikes.
Abri Plus, a provider of urban furniture and a specialist in Bike parking, can supply all of its equipment! Secure bike shelters, bike racks, repair totems, access management… Our expertise will support you from the start to the end of your project.
To determine the number of bike spaces you will need to create, the best approach is to collect data on the current bike traffic at the location.
You’ll need to provide enough spaces for all the users you’ve already convinced, but you’ll also need to anticipate an increase in use! Don’t hesitate to plan for 15 to 25% more spaces so that your velo shelter doesn’t fill up too quickly.
Regulations also impose a minimum number of bike spaces around certain locations. This is the case, for example, for many train stations, for new buildings… Our technical sales representatives are familiar with these rules and are here to guide you, feel free to ask us directly!
