A smoker’s shelter is a covered space for collective use installed outside public spaces or workplaces, designed to limit the negative effects (passive smoking) of cigarettes or vaping on non-smokers.

Indeed, a company or local authority must comply with the provisions of the public health code, which includes the ban on smoking in public places.

In this context, the employer can offer practical solutions, particularly to protect the health of non-smokers. However, there is no legal obligation to create a smoking area.

The steel used for the production of our smoking shelters complies with the NF EN 10-219 standards. The products made by Abri Plus are protected against corrosion through a hot-dip galvanization treatment following the NF EN ISO 146-1 standard.

Some of our smoking shelters are made of wood (Larch wood, treated pine class IV). Unlike steel, wood is a living material that works over time. Therefore, changes in shade and occasional tensions can cause slight deformations (cracks, warping…). These variations in no way affect the strength of the shelter and enhance its natural appearance.

The fasteners are made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel, class A2.

A smoking shelter is a steel structure that does not require any special maintenance. Cleaning with water can be done if necessary.

Wooden shelters require more regular maintenance. For example, we recommend using a wood brightener once a year.

The anti-smoking decree n° 2006-1386 of November 15, 2006, prohibits the use of cigarettes in places designated for collective use, which is why smokers must smoke outside any establishment.

The use of e-cigarettes or electronic cigarettes in public places is also prohibited by decree n° 2017-633 of April 25, 2017.

Clear and explicit signage (such as pictograms) indicating smoking/non-smoking areas must be displayed. Fines may be imposed on offenders, including company managers.
