Secure bike shelters

A closed bike shelter is, by definition, a completely enclosed structure that provides optimal security for bicycles, even for long durations, thanks to fully secure doors and its walls that are impervious to vandalism or theft. Access is restricted to a limited audience (for example, through a remote management via subscriptions or by keypad code) selected according to predefined allocation criteria.

A closed bike shelter is more often subject to budget constraints because its product characteristics are more advanced in terms of security, which is its primary function. It is therefore essential to precisely plan the number of bikes to accommodate and the security needs. The choice of a closed bike parking is also more subject to external constraints, as it is often larger in volume: it will be important to better harmonize the shelter with the surrounding area in order to optimize its integration. Depending on the shelters, their structures, and designs, one may be more modular in size, while the other may offer a broader range of finishes. Of course, depending on the bike capacity, some models are more adaptable in terms of structure, as they are designed to be assembled in modules, such as 1, 2, 4, etc. Alternatively, there are models delivered pre-assembled and pre-equipped with 2-level bike racks; for example, the closed bike shelter model ‘KOMPACT,’ specifically designed in a single size for minimal space, accommodates 12 bikes with only 7 m² of ground space.

A closed bike shelter, by definition, must have its size ideally adjusted according to the number of bikes to be accommodated, but also considering the space needed for user and bike movement and clearance. These bike shelters are also specially designed to be placed in areas with high traffic density, whether pedestrian, automotive, or cyclist. Just like an open bike shelter, a closed bike shelter is always made from galvanized steel, then painted with UV-resistant polyester powder coating baked at 200°C. The color can be selected from the RAL color chart. Note that it doesn’t have to be monochrome—it’s entirely possible to choose one color for the structure and a different one for the façades.

To better understand the future installation in its environment, it is essential to plan for installation on a hard surface, paved or concrete slab, depending on the model, to receive and secure the bike shelter. If this is not the case, civil engineering work should be anticipated through an external contractor. Note that depending on the model, a concrete slab will be necessary, as the paved surface will be insufficient. However, for shelters without a ground structure and resting only on their legs, it is always possible to plan only for concrete blocks. Please note that all civil engineering work must be completed at least 3 weeks before installation. On the installation day, it is required that the area receiving the bike shelter be cleared of at least 4 meters around the perimeter to accommodate the transport vehicle on one hand, and to allow space for clearing and assembling the structure on the other.

A delay of 4 to 6 weeks is required for the installation of a closed bike shelter, assuming the bike parking is ordered in standard stock dimensions. For a bike shelter that is not in stock or has been modified from its standard form, the timeline should be 6 to 8 weeks. If the bike garage has specific dimensions outside the standard production, the involvement of the design office, approval, and custom manufacturing in Abriplus workshops will extend the timeline to 10 to 14 weeks.
